An invitation for Intercultural Dialogue in Virginia


Paper Journeys:
An Exhibition of Scrolls and Prayer Flags
by Contemporary Artists
from the East and West

April-June, 2010

Curator: Amie Oliver

Participants: artists who participated in the Metasenta Project in China and Tibet (this also includes artists we met in Lhasa and Guangzhou)

Concept: Each artist is invited to create a series of 2-5 scrolls and/or prayer flags which are symbolic of our journey to Tibet. Each piece should arrive in Richmond ready for installation (no frames or glass) by April 1, 2010. If you are in contact with artists we met in Lhasa or Guangzhou please send me their email address and tell them about this exciting project!

Size Limitation:

Max Width:: 6' wide or 2 meters (4 sections this size)

Max Height: 5' or 1.67 meters

This show will also travel to another site in Richmond during the summer of 2010. We are also discussing the possibility of moving it to Princeton, NJ in late 2010 or early 2011.

Deadlines:

January 1: an email confirming your participation and a short proposal as to what you might create for the show

March 1: email me your inventory list for the exhibition. It should include:

your name and contact information

(email, website, snail mail address and email)

the title of each artwork, medium, size,

price (for insurance valuation or for sale if desired),

at least one jpg of a work you are sending and

an artist statement which addresses the specific works you are exhibiting.

This information will be used for the Capital One Art Release,

Catalogue and Web Promotion.

April 1: deadline for receiving artwork to the shipping address below in Richmond, VA. Please allow plenty of time to clear customs. Work can be shipped most efficiently if grouped according to region by a team leader and shipped as paper documents. Each artist is responsible for the shipping expense from its point of origin. Gallery stipend will cover return shipping.

As this show will travel for a year or more please document the work well prior to shipping.
